Kwaremont

If Belgium is famous for 2 things, it’s beer and it’s cycling. Everyone agrees (hmm, and maybe chocolate). At the end of march, beginning april, all cycling enthusiasts come out of their houses. Either to ride the bicycle themselves or, to watch the pro cyclists and cheer for them. It’s our culture. Beers & bicycles. The tour of Flanders (Ronde van Vlaanderen) is without a doubt the most famous, toughest classic on earth. It is in the heart of this race where we find a 2.5 km long steep road in cobbles, called the old kwaremont. Over the total length of this horrible road, the cyclist climb 89 meters. This part of the race is often where the wheat gets separated from the chaff, and the true champions show their capabilities.

Marketing-wise it was a good idea for Brewery De Brabandere to call a beer after this legendary climb. As a passionated cyclist i can only confirm that the beer is well-integrated. The beer is well established among cyclists and is a beloved self-reward after a long hard ride with friends.

With 6.6%, the beer is suitable to have a few. Yet the beer has enough body to be appreciated as a craft beer , something more endulgeable than a regular pils. It’s a full-flavored blonde with a clear bronze color and a firm head as described on the brewery’s website and that’s well said. Also check out the brand’s website at www.kwaremont.be as i must say this is a beautiful website that let’s you have a glimpse of our beer&bicycle culture which we truly treasure here in Flanders.
